Pattern: Herringbone Tweed Hat by Sophy T. O’Donnell from Knit Notes, Etc
Yarn(s): Lion Brand Wool Ease
Colorway(s): Navy Blue & Grey
Needle(s): US 6 / 4.0 mm
US 8 / 5.0 mm
Casted On: October 15 2008
Casted Off: December 22, 2008
Modifications: I did a three inch lining in the hat using size six needles then did a row of purls, switched to size 8s and started the colorwork. There is an error in the decreases so please check the errata. Sophy O’Donnell, the pattern’s author, was so extremely helpful in answering my questions as I finished it for Christmas.

Pattern: Maelstrom by Cookie from Twist Collective, Fall 2008
Yarn(s): Socks That Rock Mediumweight
Colorway(s): Prove It All Night (I’ll admit–the name attracted me more than the acutal colors. That said, still love the colorway)
Needle(s): US 1½ / 2.5 mm
Casted On: September 14th 2008
Casted Off: November 26, 2008

Pattern: Swallotail Shawl by Evelyn Clark from Interweave Knits Fall 2006
Yarn(s): 3 Skeins of Malabrigo Lace (held double throughout the shawl)
Colorway(s): Violeta
Needle(s): US 7 / 4.5 mm
Casted On: September 20th 2008
Casted Off: October 27, 2008
Modifications: The pattern suggested fourteen repeats of the budding lace pattern. I did 24 to make it bigger. Like many did on Ravelry, I replaced the nupps with beads.
Blogged: November 2 & September 24

Pattern: Rogue by Jenna Wilson from The Girl From Auntie
Yarn(s): Cascade 220 Wool, 6.5 Skeins, 1430 yards
Colorway(s): 9419
Needle(s): US 6 / 4.0 mm
US 8 / 5.0 mm
Casted On: February 18, 2008
Casted Off: October 18, 2008, literally on the way to Rhinebeck
Modifications: :My friend Steph gave me a heads up that the sleeves were a little too short on her so I added some extra rows to mine. Since this was my first adult sweater, I played it strictly by the book. If I were to do this pattern over again (which I think I will. Not anytime soon but I think I will), I would add some length to the sweater. Right now, it’s fine but an extra inch would have been nice. (I think I was nervous to see if I had enough yarn.

US 2½ / 3.0 mm
Casted On: September 4, 2008

Yarn(s): Socks That Rock, Mediumweight
Colorway(s): Farmhouse
Needle(s): US 1½ / 2.5 mm

Pattern: Lusekofte Cap by Charlene Schurch from Hats On!
Yarn(s): Cascade 220 & Lorna’s Laces Worsted Solid
Colorway(s): Marine 8339, and Grey, respectively
Needle(s): Size 6 (for hem) 8 for the rest of the hat
Casted On: June-ish 2008 (three inches of stockinette isn’t the most exciting thing so I forgot the date :-P )
Casted Off: August 29, 2008
Modifications: I did a three inch hem as suggested for the Norwegian Star hat for added warmth and did the same increases suggested for the Norwegian Star Hat. (I didn’t like how my hat’s decreases stuck out)

Pattern: Uptown Boot Socks by Jennifer Appleby from 25 Favorite Socks
Yarn(s): Tess’ Designer Yarns Super Socks & Baby
Colorway(s): Purple/Blue
Needle(s): Size 2.5. For this yarn, I don’t think I would typically use needles this big because the yarn is fairly thin. But since this pattern is ALL cables, I figured it would be a good idea to use a bigger needle size so the end result isn’t so condensed.
Casted On: June 28, 2008
Casted Off: August 24, 2008
Modifications: I composed this pair of socks from the toe up and did a sherman heel

Pattern: Endpaper Mittens by Eunny Jang from See Eunny Knit
Yarn(s): Happy Feet from Plymouth
Wool Bam Boo from Classic Elite
Colorway(s): Deep Red & Cream, respectively
Needle(s): No simple answer here. For glove #1, I didn’t think size 0s were necessary for the cuff and I used 2s. Well I didn’t like how they ended up. I used 0s for the second glove. (There is something to be said for following directions ;-) )
First Glove
Size 2’s – Cuff and colorwork to the thumb gusset
Size 3’s – Thumb guesset to end of colorwork
Size 0’s – Cuff area near the fingers
(needless to say, the first glove was very experimental)
Second Glove
Size 0’s – Cuffs on wrist and finger areas
Size 3’s – All the colorwork
Casted On: August 15, 2008
Casted Off: August 29, 2008
Modifications: I did a sew cast off instead of a kitchener one

Pattern: Dashing by Cheryl Niamath from Spring 2007’s Knitty
Yarn(s): Paton’s Wool Merino
Colorway(s): Green
Needle(s): Size 7 KnitPicks Options, Magic Looped
Casted On: July 30, 2008
Casted Off: August 11, 2008
The first glove was finished a day and a half after I casted on then I started the second glove on August 9, 2008.
Modifications: The pattern called for eighteen rows in the ribbed pattern, then a cable round, nine rib rounds, cable round, nine rib rounds then a final cable. After the final cable, the pattern calls for 24 rib rounds and I only did nine.

Pattern: Cascading Leaves by Jeanie Townsend from the Jeanie Townsend Yahoo Group
Yarn(s): Socks that Rock, Mediumweight
Colorway(s): Beryl
Needle(s): Size 1.5 for the ribbing and 2 for the rest of the sock
Casted On: July 22, 2008
Casted Off: July 29, 2008
Modifications: The pattern only called for five repeats and I did eight. I had plenty of yarn for three more repeats, even, but I know my mom didn’t want socks that went up that far. And, of course, I used my beloved Sherman Heel and round toe. (If you can believe it, I am contemplating a garter heel one of these days :-))

Pattern: Potomatomus by Cookie A

Colorway(s): Rocktober
Needle(s): Size 2, magic looped
Casted On: June 30, 2008
Casted Off: July 19, 2008
Modifications: I decided not to knit through the back loop. I liked it with Dianne’s pair and decided to do the same. I did my favorite Sherman heel and round toe with this as well.

Pattern: Jaywalkers by Grumperina
Yarn(s): Claudia’s Handpainted Yarns Fingering weight
Colorway(s): Buckeyes
Needle(s): Size 1.5 for the foot and leg portion and 2 for the heel, KnitPick Options
Casted On: May 24, 2008
Casted Off: June 29, 2008
Modifications: I did these socks toe up and did a Sherman heel (as always). I was nervous that the yardage on Claudia’s Handpainted wouldn’t be as generous but I was quite pleased. I was happy with the end result but they’re quite snug, shall we say. That said, they do fit well.

Yarn(s): Socks That Rock, Mediumweight
Colorway(s): Count Cluckula
Needle(s): Size 2 KnitPick Options
Casted On: June 21, 2008 at 12:10 am as part of the Official Cast on for Summer of Socks
Casted Off: June 25, 2008

Pattern: Lusekofte Cap by Charlene Schurch from Hats On!
Yarn(s): Rowan Cashsoft Aran
Colorway(s): Purple and Grey
Needle(s): Size 8 16in circulars and DPNs
Casted On: April 5th, 2008
Casted Off: May 31, 2008
Modifications: None, really. When I make Jermaine’s hat using the same pattern, I’ll work the decreases for the crown differently

Pattern: Indigo Ripples Skirt by Kat Coyle from Interweave Knits Spring 2007
Yarn(s): Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece (5 skiens, 1,075 yards)
Colorway(s): Jungle Green
Needle(s): Size 6 KnitPick Options
Casted On: July 4, 2007
Casted Off: May 8, 2008
Modifications: I did sssk’s instead of Sl1, K2Tog, psso in the lace portion of the skirt. I will be the first one to admit that I do not know a great deal about garment construction to make educated changes to a pattern. So, if I were to do it again, I would either go down a size and increase a little more so much OR I would make the same size and would not increase as much. I would probably do more research on how to make a skirt hug ya a little more. But overall, I’m quite happy with this skirt.

Pattern: Fana Cap by Charlene Schurch from Hats On!
Yarn(s): 1.25 skeins of Karabella Aurora 8 & 1 skein of Rowan RYC Cashsoft DK
Colorway (s): purple & lime (respectively)
Needle(s): Size 6 DPNs for twisted ribbing
Size 8 16 inch circular for main part
Size 7 DPNs for the decreases
Casted On: Early March then it hibernated for a while so I’m unsure of the dates
Casted Off: April 1, 2008
Modifications: In the decrease section, the pattern called for SSKs and I replaced them with a slip 1, knit one and pass slipped stitch over. I felt it looked better. Because I was nervous that the hat was/is too big, I changed to size 7s for the decreases. I’m not sure if that made a huge difference but I tried.

Pattern: Oz Vest by Louisa Harding from Natural Knits for Babies and Moms.
Yarn(s): Lion Brand, Cotton Ease
Colorway: Lake & Stone (One skein each)
Needle(s): Size 6 & 7 KnitPick Options
Casted On: March 9, 2008
Casted Off: March 20, 2008
Modifications: I started this vest in the round as opposed to knitting it in two pieces. I did this for the sake of simplicity but I also did this in case the stripes didn’t match up, for whatever reason. I don’t think I carried the colors up the vest as well as I could have but there’s always time to learn, right? Finally, I knit this in a much larger size.

Needle(s): Size 2 KnitPick Options, Magic looped
Casted On: January 25th, 2008.
Casted Off: February 2, 2008 at Dupont Circle’s Stitch n Bitchs’ sleepover.
Modifications: I did the first sock with three purls between pattern repeats like the instructions stated. I tried it on and it was a tad tight. Not so tight that it was even uncomfortable but for the second one, I added one more purl stitch and it was comfier

Casted On: January 3, 2008

Hi Laura, See you really have the knitting bug. Keep up the good work. Did you stop making quilts? Hope you and Jermaine are keeping well. I am working on a puff quilt for Kyle our 11 yer old grandson for Christmas. Still have another Emergency Vehicle quilt to make for Ryan yet. Doing a counted cross stitch picture of a Victorain home with lovely gardens. Too much going on really, but try and keep up.

    Hugs,
    Mary
