Modifications: Body – The pattern originally stated that the body should be 13 inches long and have 3/4 sleeves. I wanted neither. After the colorwork area of the body, the pattern instructed to knit until you have 7.5 inches then start the increases for the beginning of the chest. I knit 10 inches instead. The body is about17 inches. (I’m 5′10, so there!
) Sleeves – In order to make them longer, I had to spread the increases out so after the color work, I did an increase round and did another five rounds later. Following that I increased every 7 rounds 3 times, then every 5 rounds 5 times, and finally I increased every 6 rounds twice. Might sound random but I tried it on as I did it and it feels wonderful.
Now the needles.
When I first read the pattern, I saw that you knit the colorwork with tens. I originally thought “wow…that seems awfully big.” I knit the color work on the body and one of the sleeves with 9s and notices an ever so slight tightness. Not so significant that I would frog it but it was still there. I then knit the color work on the other sleeve with 10s and thought it looked less tense. Lesson, here? Listen to the damn pattern, in this regard
One final note-I used 6s for the placket area. 8s made it looks incredibly sloppy.
I absolutely LOVED the yarn!! It feels wonderful and was a pleasure to knit with. Got perfect gauge (4.75 stitches/inch) on the 8s. There were times when the tweed bits fell off as I knit with it but it happened maybe three times while I was knitting the sweater??
This will likely be my Rhinebeck sweater. What will be yours?

GORGEOUS!! Excellent job, my dear! I am inspired to make a sweater for myself now! Yours is just beautiful. – H
Beyond gorgeous! I like your lengthening mods – This is also the sweater I will be knitting from the book – someday….
Maybe I’ll see you at Rhinebeck! (I won’t have as nice a sweater as you though)
Amazing!! Look how quickly you knit that!! You are a sweater rockstar!! You’ll have sooo much fun at Rhinebeck!
Thanks so much for sharing the mods! I too am lengthening the body and sleeves, although I started the increases where they said to and am just knitting until it reaches 15″ (not quite as tall as you!). The sleeves mods I’ll definitely pay attention to (makes sense — I’ve never modified before, but 3/4 sleeves are too trendy to stay in style much longer). Beautiful Sweater!!
Looks great! Took you almost no time to knit. I like the longer length of the sleeves. I’m not big on the 3/4 thing, either. I finally knit with the KP Tweed that I got and I really like it! I might be a copy cat and make this sweater, too… well maybe sometime after Rhinebeck. I still need to get my sweater done!
WOW!! It’s gorgeous! Can’t believe you’re gotten it done already!!! I may have to just queue that one up! I’ve been wanting to try the KP City Tweed and I may just have to now.
Stumbled across this on Ravelry and – oh, it’s lovely! I’ve been drooling over the Made in Brooklyn booklet since I bought it last month. I truly can’t decide what to knit first (though I’m leaning towards a tiny version of Rockaway for my kids). I thought the sleeve length in the original design for this sweater looked a little funny, but making regular ol’ long sleeves makes sense. Yours is just beautiful!
Awesome! I love the colors.
Wear it with pride.
OOOO… so pretty. I love ravelry. This is the first completed Made from Brooklyn thing I have seen!!! I am ALMOST done with Seneca and I will be wearing it at Rhinebeck. Good for you! You are a quicker knitter than I, and I thought I was buzzing through the finish line quickly. Happy knitting. I’ll say hi to you if I see you….
